Can We Talk?

The world of blogging is relatively new so it’s not really surprising when it’s misunderstood. Just this last weekend I was doing some reading on a popular ham radio mailing list when one fellow posted this question:

“Can anyone point me to some good ham radio blogs?”

There are at least a hundred ham radio blogs these days — maybe more. So you can imagine my dismay when that query elicited this single reply:

Click here. You may have to register to post… read only should be no problem.”

I hope it’s obvious to you that a listing of ham radio mailing list archives is not a “blog”. No one on the list offered any other suggestions nor did anyone chime in to say that the answer given was incredibly wrong…

About the only conclusion that I can take from this episode is that blogs continue to be a mystery to a lot of folks and I don’t want to take anything for granted here. The video tutorial, Blogs in Plain English embedded below provides a wonderful explanation. It’s a very brief, 3-minute production that warrants a look by all.

    jeff -

truth is, i don’t get why people don’t get it. there is a good deal of anti-blogger sentiment out there - not unlike the same kind of negativity people had against people with cell phones back in the early 90’s.

but sure enough, its ok for every tom, jerk, and harry to have one in their ear today. star trek style. (and of course, the ubiquitous they made fun of that too…shame many of the things they take for granted today were predicted and made fun of.)

i have an eclectic mix of friends who favor message boards over blogs, or dont think blogging has value at all.

    they’ll see. eventually.

ps - i am on day 5 of my vanity call sign change watch :)
