Hamvention!
Dayton Hamvention® is only a month away and if you’re planning a first visit to the mother of all hamfests, then you need to get busy NOW with some serious planning. There’s simply too much to see, too much ground to cover, and too many things going on to simply saunter up the the ticket counter and walk in the gate without a game plan.
You need to spend some time figuring what vendors you want to meet in person and then figure out where they will be located, etc.
In addition to all the normally scheduled conferences and banquets, Hamvention® is the perfect excuse for groups and clubs to meet. If you belong to any clubs be certain to inquire if there will be even informal get-togethers — usually in a hotel lobby or a restaurant.
If this will be your first visit, then I’d recommend you begin your research by reading:
Preparing for Dayton written by Scot, K9JY. His insightful tips will spot you a leg up on the learning curve.
My very first Hamvention® was in 1977 when I managed to drag Brenda along for the daylong Saturday adventure. That must have been the strangest “date” she had ever been on. Of course, we ended up married a year later and will celebrate our 30th anniversary this summer — so I can say unequivocally that Hamvention® can make for a great date!

I’m planning to invite Olly, my girlfriend, to Friedrichshafen hamfest that is the “european hamvention”. Our wedding date has been already planned and we will see if, after Friedrichshafen, her idea will remain the same :)
