The calendar declares it’s nearly October and there’s a slight chill in the overnight air. The leaves have started to change their colors and the days are getting shorter. All good signs that a new season is underway. Ever the optimist (sarcastic grin), I’ve started listening on 80 meters in the early mornings for the return of the Austral path. I haven’t heard it yet, but it’s coming. Confident enough in the return of the low-bands very soon I’ve re-enabled my subscription to the TopBand mailing list.

In the words of old Rafiki, “it is time”.

Next weekend:

The California QSO Party (CQP). Held every year on the first weekend of October. The first CQP took place in 1966. Since 1974, the Northern California Contest Club (NCCC) has sponsored CQP. The event has traditionally opened the annual contest season by providing an opportunity for contesters to prepare for the ARRL November Sweepstakes since the format is similar.

More pumpkin-spiced goodness dead ahead…
