Elecraft Announces K3S Transceiver

The first bomb shell announcement from Dayton came this morning at the Four Days in May event when Eric Swartz, WA6HHQ debuted THE NEW K3S — a significant upgrade to the older K3 HF transceiver. All the details are now available on the company Web site. It’s a sizable bump in performance, and as you might expect, a hefty price increase.

Some of the enhancements will become available as upgrades for existing K3 owners but Elecraft stopped taking orders for the K3 a few weeks ago and it’s no longer available for sale.

It will take a few weeks to digest all the information available but at this point, but it looks like yet another winner from the company with a long line of winning products. Having passed on the K3 when it was first available, and then holding off on purchasing one because I was always certain a major upgrade would be forthcoming, I’m having a hard time coming up with a good excuse not to order the K3S.

The announcement came at the very beginning of the FDIM full-day seminar and seemed to suck the oxygen out of the room. I’m not sure anyone on the speaker list wants to follow that act — I’m currently in my hotel room not completely certain if I will go back to the seminar.

Find my live tweets from Dayton here and look for plenty more photos and commentary tonight form the QRP Vendor Night activities and over the next two days from the really big show over at Hara Arena.

By the way, please feel free to use any of the photos that I tweet during this extended weekend as you best see fit — for your own Web site, blog, club newsletter, etc. You have my permission.
