Field Day was a total bust for me. We were only planning a simple backyard operation as it was, but the weather and other things (life) got in the way so we took a pass this time. My only regret is that it breaks a string of fifteen consecutive backyard FD events.

I did see some interesting reports from several hams who did participate in the annual rite this year:

  • Jim, W1PID made 200 QSO’s With a Flashlight Battery and an easily deployed solar roll-up solar panel.

  • Larry, W2LJ called his local radio club’s outing a mixed bag mostly due to environmental conditions but it looked like they did well and had a good time.

  • Dan, KB6NU said his club’s Field Day on the Fly operation was Not a blast, but not a bust. He also commented that it seemed to him that participation was down a bit this year. That’s not so hard to believe given the crushing heatwave over parts of the country and the lingering effects from the pandemic.
