The previous owner of the house we now call “home” was apparently infatuated with her Wisteria farm. Multiple large vines were climbing up the pergola over the back patio in what must have taken a decade or more to cultivate. It’s probably very pretty for a few days when it flowers.

The problem for me is I don’t like vines, especially so near the house. And the flowers make such a mess on the ground. I have been unable to keep the patio and furniture clear of them for even a moment. And life’s definitely too short to clean the patio everyday…

So I’m waging war on it. My first line of attack was to cut the vines off from the ground. Next will be to remove all those overhead vines from the pergola. Finally, I plan to go chemical warfare on the root systems. I’ve read this is the toughest part as this particular vine can be difficult to eradicate.
