A rough patch of weather this week in the Heartland and I will say, going forward, significant rainfall in East Central Indiana will be measured against the rain that fell between the evening of Tuesday and the afternoon of Wednesday, August 11-12. Massive flooding here after ten inches of rain fell over those two days.

The White River, the primary tributary through this area, crested today at 18.6 feet — nearly ten feet above its 9.0-foot flood stage. Schools failed to open as planned this week, hundreds of homes had to be evacuated, and travel around the county has been tough given all the road closures and detours.

I’ve previously mentioned having converted the sunroom into my ham shack. While the house sits dry on a higher foundation, the sunroom was built on a concrete slab at ground level and as the deluge grew there was some water ingress into the shack. Minor damage done though tomorrow we will rip the damp carpet out and be done with that mold generator.

I expect to be off the air and out of action for about a week.

More rain is expected tonight and this weekend. One other note, we’ve already had more rain this year than we had in all of 2025. I’ve had enough summer. Let’s move on to autumn without delay. Soaked, hot, and muggy is no way to live.
